I also did a variation with some funky sound waves for the sake of experimentation
It seems a smaller drawing made it easier to focus on shading and detail (although I guess I'm not surprised) and I think it helped me refine a smoother consistent type of shading. I will have to try it on my next A2 piece.
Also I've just created a new page about why I started blogging. I'd appreciate any thoughts you may have on it. Thanks.

Ah, another awesome artwork from you! Well done, I like both versions, actually. I feel like this one came out much more stylized than the rest, I had a very strong realism feel from other ones simply due to not really recognizing all the lines in the shading as easily I suppose. Also I think the outlines are much more pronounced in this particular drawing than the rest. The "sound wave" actually reminds me of the heart beat monitor line much more than a music sound. Not sure if it's a valid point to make at all, but yeah that's what I thought of. I do like the idea of it there though, those headphones are rather awesome, adding more emphasis on the headphones helps the drawing I feel.
ReplyDeleteSo, now for the critique of the drawing itself... As always, just doing it because you're asking for it, I suck at this stuff but maybe at least you can extrapolate something that would please a more inexperienced eye a bit more through it heh.
Something might not be correct with some of the lines on the horns, they look rather cartoonish. This drawing came out much more stylized in general, as I said, but they also look somewhat extruding outwards in the middle, which is probably not exactly what you meant to depict there (bottom right one in particular).
There may or may not be some minor perspective issues. It seems that we're viewing it from 3/4 on the top part but the horns don't seem to follow that correctly. Might be an issue with shading, for some reason the whole coloring of the horns makes me feel like it's a shadow instead, even though clearly it isn't. I think they might be curving slightly incorrectly also.
And finally, when I try to think of the length of the skull I seem to realize it's rather flat and I can't really understand what's going on with it in that sense. I know this is one of the most difficult things to achieve in drawing though and another thing is that the version with less contrast on deviantart actually makes this issue slightly less pronounced (if there even is an issue). This might also be caused by the stylistic rendering choice of yours, but I'm sure some things could be done if you wanted nonetheless.
So there, I hope that makes at least some amount of sense. It still looks really good regardless. Keep on going, 'tis really cool.
